OUR FUTURE OUR MOSQUE

In 2007, the Havering Islamic Cultural Centre was established on Waterloo Road in Romford and has since become a crucial community hub. Beyond offering a space for prayer, it serves as a platform for education, Islamic discussions, matrimonial services, and various other activities. The Centre actively collaborates with local charities, exemplified by initiatives like the soup kitchen and food bank, which provide essential meals to those in need.

Due to redevelopment plans by Havering Council for new housing on the current site, HICC is set to be relocated. Ongoing discussions with the council’s regeneration team have led to the agreement on a new location for the HICC. Plans are underway for a purpose-built mosque, offering expanded educational services, funeral facilities, and increased capacity for over 1000 worshippers in a single Jumu’ah. The relocation will also involve a rebranding to Havering Mosque.

The Havering Mosque aims to symbolise community unity and the growth of Havering Islamic Cultural Centre since its inception. The vision is to enhance existing community services and solidify its position as a cornerstone of the local community. The mosque will be constructed to the highest standards, both in quality and environmental sustainability, ensuring it stands as a landmark in the Town Centre – a testament to the community’s progress and unity.
